technical leader
Come build, test & scale new startups with Neighborhood Studios — a venture studio built to create new companies, not simply invest in ones that already exist.
We work as a founding team from the beginning — idea validation, product, engineering, design, marketing, operations, finance, legal, recruiting & initial capital under one roof. When an idea demonstrates genuine customer pull, we recruit a tenacious founder and CEO, surround them with the studio team & provide enough capital to reach their first outside financing. AI gives a small studio leverage at every stage: learn faster, take more shots on goal & turn the strongest ideas into companies with real scale.
This is a hands-on builder's role. You'll work directly with the studio team to turn ideas into testable products: writing code, shipping early versions & learning from real customers. Depending on your experience, you may own projects independently, help set technical direction, or grow into mentoring other engineers.

- Ship practical web and mobile products — rough prototype to customer-usable in days or weeks.
- Write full-stack code across React / Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript & the data stores each product needs.
- Build the supporting pieces — auth, payments, APIs, background jobs — that get experiments live fast.
- Use existing AI models and tools where they help; develop judgment for when simpler software wins.
- Add testing, monitoring & safeguards that fit the stage — without overengineering an early experiment.
- Make sensible build-versus-buy calls balancing speed, cost, quality & reliability.
- Work closely with founders, designers & engineers; senior candidates may mentor and help us hire.
Many hyperlocal products live on a phone — React Native / Expo / iOS / Android experience helps but isn't required: store submissions, OTA updates, push, location, offline sync, real-time, maps & geofencing, camera, deep linking, fast cold starts.
- JavaScript and TypeScript first; Python when useful for AI or data work.
- React interfaces (often Tailwind, sometimes Next.js); Node.js backend services.
- Relational and document databases; vector stores when a product actually needs them.
- Model APIs and AI tools to speed research, prototyping & focused customer-facing features.
- Autonomy to determine the best solution — in our users' shoes, communicating clearly, staying curious.
We're open across experience levels: strong software fundamentals, evidence you can build, learn & finish what you start, and a shipped web or mobile product — professional, startup, or a substantial personal project. We care more about what you can do and how quickly you learn than a title or years. Be ready to walk us through something you built: the problem, the choices, what went wrong & what you learned.
Beyond any particular technology: you can find a path forward. Unfamiliar domain, new framework, incomplete docs, ambiguous spec — you ask for help early, but you don't sit blocked. You investigate, make decisions & ship. Speed matters: think in hours, not days, for a first version. And you should care about design — notice when an experience feels off, then suggest and implement a thoughtful fix. Strong written and verbal English required.
